Christian Founders, Christian Nation, Christian Principles?

For years the leaders of CCakaTRR have been claming that the United States was founded by Christians for Christians and that the Founding Fathers intended for the government to operate according to Christian principles.

I am not knowledgeable enough to argue against that intelligently. However, the folks at http://www.religiousrightwatch.com seem to be.

Opposing viewpoints are welcome as always. I love to be right, but ultimately I am seeking the truth (even if sometimes reluctantly.)

Update:

The entry that prompted this post has since been taken down. Officially, the site is not yet open. Monday, July 11, 5:34 am is when the site is scheduled to be open officially.

A Change In Plans

I very much wanted my second post to be one that described why I started this blog.

Unfortunately my thoughts do not come easy and I go through a lengthy process of writing and rewriting before achieving satisfaction.

I felt more good could be done by getting busy with the issues at hand rather than trying to craft a grand statement of intent.

So, here we go.

As I have already described I do not ascribe to any particular religious tradition. As such it is only natural that I believe that a secular government is a government that can best foster an environment of freedom and equality for all citizens.

There are some in the Christian community who disagree. They are commonly referred to using labels such as "Conservative Christians" and "The Religious Right."

While I do not disagree with all positions taken by CCakaTRR, I do disagree with most. Sadly my disagreement is so intense that I have developed strong feelings of animosity towards CCakaTRR.

I was pleasantly surprised today to find out that there are people professing the name of Christ with whom I share more common ground. Some of those people are represented by the folks at Christian Alliance For Progress.

Here is a quick link to where you can learn more about the Alliance.

On a related note here is what Rush Limbaugh reportedly said about groups like CAFP...

"The religious left in this country hates and despises the God of Christianity...".

Apparently it is not possible to be a Christian and be a liberal or a moderate.

Who Am I?

I am an agnostic who "is skeptical about the existence of God but does not profess true atheism."

I am not convinced that there is a creator.

I am even less convinced that there is a creator that has in large part, or whole, the attributes assigned to it by our past or present belief systems.

However, I do not deny the possibility.

As such I do not define myself as an agnostic who "believes that it is impossible to know whether there is a God."

It seems reasonable to me that a creator would be capable of revealing itself in a manner that was unambiguous and undeniable.

Obviously I do not believe that has happened.

I will admit though that in my early to late twenties I did believe that I was operating in partnership with a power greater than myself. This power was not affiliated with any particular belief system, although I did refer to this power as God.

As I entered into my thirties I began to feel less and less connection to this god of my own understanding. At this point I find little or no value in faith. Not having ones foundations in logic and reason seems infantile and insane to me.

Despite my feelings on faith I have to admit that if I had some my life would be better.

In my next post I will discuss my reasons for starting this blog.

Up the irons.
